Enhancement of Infrastructure and Systems for the Superconducting Cyclotron

K-500 Superconducting Cyclotron is being commissioned. Some parts of the subsystems like cryogenic plants, cryogenic delivery systems (CDS), Cryostat, Superconducting Main Magnet, magnetic field mapping device etc. are already installed and commissioned. They are operational since Dec.’04. During this time period the main magnet have been energized for extensive field mapping. Now the magnet has been dismantled for installation of other sub-systems like Trim Coil, RF, Cryogen Delivery System Phase II, Cryopanel etc.

For operation of the cyclotron, round-the-clock operation of the cryogenic plant is necessary. The interruption of its operation may create un-toward incidents like Helium gas loss, warm-up of the Superconducting Coil etc. During the last one-year round-the-clock run of the Liquid Helium Plant it is envisaged that a stand-by Helium Liquefier is necessary along with some spares and modifications of other sub-systems.
